Self-Hosted Grafana Cloud Alternatives

2 open-source replacements you can run on your own server — compared on what they are actually good at, not just what they claim.

Why people look for a Grafana Cloud alternative

Grafana Cloud is a well-run managed service built on the same open-source Grafana you can install yourself, which raises an obvious question: what exactly is the subscription paying for? The answer is storage and retention — and both are metered. Metrics, logs and traces each have their own quota, and a busy environment burns through the free tier faster than the dashboard suggests. There is also a structural oddity in paying a vendor to host a dashboard whose entire purpose is to watch your infrastructure.

2 options, compared

Which one should you pick?

Self-hosted Grafana is the same software with the same panels and the same plugin ecosystem, so any dashboard you have already built imports unchanged. Pair it with Prometheus for metrics and Loki for logs and you have covered the core of the paid stack. SigNoz is the better starting point if you want traces and logs in one OpenTelemetry-native tool rather than assembling three. The real cost you take on is storage — budget a disk that can grow, and set retention deliberately rather than by default.

Before you migrate

Self-hosting means you are the one who gets paged when something breaks at 11pm. Before committing, be honest about three things:

Migrating your data

Nearly every Grafana Cloud competitor listed above ships an import path — CSV, JSON, or a documented export format. The practical move is to migrate one project or one folder first, run both systems side by side for a week, and only then cut over. Export formats are rarely as clean as the marketing suggests, and it is much easier to notice a broken import on a test set than on five years of records.
