Self-Hosted IFTTT Alternatives

3 open-source replacements you can run on your own server — compared on what they are actually good at, not just what they claim.

Why people look for a IFTTT alternative

IFTTT's recipe model made home automation accessible before most people had smart devices. The free tier now allows only a couple of applets, and the pricing tiers feel steep for what amounts to a few webhooks.

3 options, compared

Which one should you pick?

n8n handles anything IFTTT can and then keeps going — conditional logic, looping, error handling, hundreds of integrations. Node-RED is the better fit if your automations are event-driven or you want a visual flow you can shape by hand.

Before you migrate

Self-hosting means you are the one who gets paged when something breaks at 11pm. Before committing, be honest about three things:

Migrating your data

Nearly every IFTTT competitor listed above ships an import path — CSV, JSON, or a documented export format. The practical move is to migrate one project or one folder first, run both systems side by side for a week, and only then cut over. Export formats are rarely as clean as the marketing suggests, and it is much easier to notice a broken import on a test set than on five years of records.
