Self-Hosted Visualping, Distill.io, Wachete Alternatives
2 replacements you can run on your own server — compared on what they are actually good at, not just what they claim.

Why people look for a Visualping, Distill.io, Wachete alternative
Page-change monitoring is one of the few categories where the hosted services charge for something that costs them almost nothing. Visualping, Distill.io and Wachete all do the same basic job — fetch a URL on a schedule, compare it to the last fetch, alert you on a difference — and all of them meter it: a free tier capped at a handful of checks per day, then a monthly fee that scales with the number of pages you watch and how often. The metering is not unreasonable, but it is a poor fit for the thing people actually want to do, which is watch twenty or fifty pages quietly. There is also a privacy point that matters more here than in most categories: a hosted monitor fetches the page from the provider's infrastructure, so the provider sees every URL you track — your competitor's pricing page, the job listing you are watching, the listing you are waiting to be restocked.

| Tool | License | Setup | Best for |

| Huginn | MIT | Intermediate | Building custom watchers and alerts for changes across websites and APIs |
| changedetection.io | Apache-2.0 | Beginner | Anyone tracking price drops, job postings or competitor pages |
Which one should you pick?
The honest state of this category is that there is one purpose-built self-hosted answer and one build-it-yourself route, and nothing else worth listing. changedetection.io is the straightforward pick and the one nearly everyone should use: it tracks whole pages or specific elements, it ships a real browser engine for JavaScript-rendered sites, it handles login walls and multi-step interactions, and it notifies through dozens of channels. It runs in Docker on the smallest box you already have, and there is no per-page or per-check ceiling at all. Huginn is the other route, and it is a different kind of tool: rather than a monitor with settings, it is a box of programmable agents — a website watcher, an RSS reader, an email parser — that you chain into a pipeline. That flexibility is genuine and it runs entirely on your own hardware, but you assemble it yourself and the interface is dated. The choice between them is really about whether you want a monitor (changedetection.io) or a system you shape yourself (Huginn). One caveat applies to both and to every hosted service equally: monitoring a modern website is best-effort. Bot checks, client-side rendering, and sites that quietly stop working can all defeat it, so use this for convenience and not for anything where a missed alert costs you money or a deadline.
Before you migrate
Self-hosting means you are the one who gets paged when something breaks at 11pm. Before committing, be honest about three things:
- Where will it run? A €4/month VPS handles most of these comfortably. A NAS or spare mini PC is even cheaper if you already own one.
- Who backs it up? A self-hosted service with no backup is worse than a cloud service, because at least the cloud service had someone else's redundancy. Set up automated backups before you migrate real data into it.
- How will you reach it remotely? Most people start with a WireGuard or Tailscale tunnel rather than exposing ports directly. That is the right instinct.
Migrating your data
Nearly every Visualping, Distill.io, Wachete competitor listed above ships an import path — CSV, JSON, or a documented export format. The practical move is to migrate one project or one folder first, run both systems side by side for a week, and only then cut over. Export formats are rarely as clean as the marketing suggests, and it is much easier to notice a broken import on a test set than on five years of records.
